Our commitment
We want everyone to be able to use this site — including people who rely on assistive technologies such as screen readers, keyboard navigation, or magnification. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, and we treat accessibility as part of how the site is built, not an afterthought.
What we’ve built in
The following measures are in place across the site:
- Semantic structure. Every page has a single main heading, a labelled main content landmark, and a logical heading order.
- Keyboard access. A “skip to content” link appears on keyboard focus on every page, and interactive elements have visible focus styles.
- Text alternatives. All informative images carry alternative text, and every embedded map has a descriptive title.
- Accessible forms. The search and filter controls in our All Firms Directory are individually labelled, and the results count is announced to screen readers as filters change.
- Works without JavaScript. All content — including the full 128-listing directory table — renders without JavaScript; scripted filtering and animation are enhancements, not requirements.
- Reduced motion respected. All decorative animation is disabled for visitors whose devices request reduced motion.
- Responsive and resizable. Layouts adapt to small screens and text can be resized without loss of content, with data tables scrolling rather than truncating.
- High-contrast palette. The site’s core colour combinations — dark navy and near-black text on white and off-white backgrounds — are designed for strong contrast.
How we check
We run automated checks across every page of the site covering image alternative text, page language, landmarks, skip links, form labelling, and embedded-content titles. These checks pass on all pages as of the date above.
Known limitations
In the interests of honesty:
- Third-party embeds. Each location guide embeds a Google map. We provide titles for these frames, but the map content itself is produced by Google and may not meet the same standard. No information is available only through the maps — court and location details always appear in the page text.
- No formal external audit yet. Our checks are automated and in-house; the site has not yet been audited by an independent accessibility specialist or tested with the full range of assistive technologies.
- Contrast measurement. While the palette is designed for high contrast, we have not yet exhaustively measured every colour combination in every interactive state against the WCAG ratios.
